Kid’s Herb Tent

This year we are offering a series of kid friendly plant & art classes for kids aged 3 – 12. Classes will be taught by Karen Farrell and her team. There are 20 kids tickets available, and all class supplies will be provided. 🙂

What to send with your child:

  •  Blanket and pillow if they want to lay down and nap at anytime
  • Water Bottle
  • They may want a hat
  • Mom approved snacks
  • A bag to bring home art

Kid’s Herb Tent Class Schedule

9 am – 10 am Kids join the welcome circle

10 am – 11 am Kid’s intro to essential oils

1. What are essential oils? – The Sense of Smell
2. Smelling and identifying various plants/oils – matching game – match plant to oil
a. Orange
b. Grapefruit
c. Lemon
d. Rose
e. Peppermint
f. Tea Tree
g. Lavender
h. Eucalyptus and Ravensara
i. Pine & Fir
3. Making Bath Salts for mom, dad, sibling of self
4. Making essential oils towels for the laundry (alternative to dryer sheets)

11 am – 12 pm – Kids plant herb seeds

a. Basil
b. Cilantro
c. Mint
d. Dill
e. Dandelions
f. Chamomile
g. Flax

12 pm – 1 pm – LUNCH with all

1 pm – 2:30 pm –Kid’s Herb/Forest walk

We will look for at least 10 trees/10 forest plants (i.e. Partridge Berry, Wintergreen, Goldthread….)

2:30 pm – 4:00 pm Kids Art with plants

1. On herb walk – Kids will collect a pine cones/sticks/needles/leaves – all fallen – no
picking. We will make a collage with what we gather.
2. Parts of a plant project
3. Coloring pages will be available– plant, mandalas, insects and butterflies

4:00 pm – 4:30 pm – Story time

4:30 – 5 pm – Kids join the closing circle.

About Karen

Prompted by health concerns in her family, Karen Farrell began studying natural foods and medicines at age 12. In her formative years – She studied traditional herbalism with Gladys Hadju and spent 6 years studying traditional home birth midwifery and women’s health, both academically and in practice – including volunteer Midwifery journeys to Indonesia and Haiti. 

Karen has worked the last 20 years in the Natural Products Industry, starting as a working member in a co-op, to working in an independent health food store to Whole Foods Market and the last 16 years in leadership in the sales & brokerage community.

​Karen was the owner and force behind Topline Marketing, a highly successful Regional Sales and Marketing brokerage in the Natural Products Industry which she sold in 2013 to the most respected Independent National Brokerage in the US – Presence Marketing. 

​Karen is now the National Director of Brand Management for Nutrition and Body Care at Presence Marketing, where she oversees her team and the go-to market strategies for brands including Burt’s Bees, Andalou Naturals, Dr. Bronner’s, Navitas Naturals and many more well-known natural and organic brands.

​Karen lives with her husband & two sons on 80 acres in the Maine Woods, which she’s repopulating with endangered native medicinal plants – and is currently continuing her herbal studies at David Winston’s Center for Herbal Studies.
